The Licensing Process
The Saskatchewan Real Estate Association (SREA) develops and administers the educational courses that are required to become a licensed real estate salesperson on behalf of the Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission. The courses are offered by correspondence.
These Pre-Registration Courses consist of two distinct phases and are mandatory. The Phase 1 course is entitled “Real Estate as a Professional Career.‿ It is essentially an introductory course which provides an overview of the benefits and limitations of a career in real estate. Within Phase 2, students choose a course in one of the following specialties: Residential, Commerical, Property Management or Farm Real Estate.
Individuals wishing to register for any one of the courses offered by the SREA may do so by contacting the Association Education Department or visiting the Association office. Enrollment forms are provided by mail, facsimile, e-mail or can be down loaded off the Association website. On-line enrollment is also available on the website.
Steps for Phase 1 and Phase 2:
- Provide proof of a high school diploma in Canada, or an equivalency (must provide this information to SREA prior to the completion of Phase 1).
- Go to the office of the local police authority (i.e., RCMP or City Police) to request a criminal record check by fingerprint comparison. Supply SREA with this information.
- Complete and pass the assignment and examination with marks of not less than 70% within one year of the date you purchased the course
- Upon completion of the Phase 1 course, you then have 6 months to successfully complete one of the Phase 2 specialty courses.
- Once again, you are required to complete and pass the assignment and examination with marks of not less than 70%.
- Become registered with the Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission as a conditionally licensed salesperson within 6 months of the date that you have completed Phase 2
- You must successfully complete these two courses within two years of your initial registration with the Commission. This two-year deadline applies even if you fail to remain continuously registered with the Commission.
